We are moving through the alphabet quickly. We are already on the letter “P.” The children named words that started with “P’ such as; pink, plate, purple, please, popcorn and pony.
In Discovery Studio Ms. Amanda talked about liquids, solids and gases. The children then made a gas by mixing baking soda, paint and vinegar. The class used straws to add paint and vinegar to baking soda. As soon as they added the paint and vinegar mixture to their bowl of baking soda, it would start to bubble. For some reason this made the children laugh, which then caused me to laugh.
Oh little playmate. Come out and play with me. Ms. Janet and I are always saying how nicely our class plays to together, so I thought we would share some pictures of our wonderful students in action.
We read a book about Pablo Picasso and then looked at pictures of his art work. Then each child made their own Picasso masterpiece which we displayed in our classroom bulletin board. Get ready to be impressed by our wonderful artists!
In art we made adorable kangaroo and mouse puppets after we read ” Pass the cheese please” and “Katie Kangaroo.” Our class loves to use popsicle sticks to make puppets with.
In science Ms. Janet demonstrated how perpetual motion works. She tied a piece of string between two chairs and then tied two small pots to the piece of string. She then pushed one pot causing it to swing back and forth. A few moments later, it slowed down and the other pot started to move back and forth. Ms. Janet explained that the pots would keep moving until all of the energy ran out. The children were amazed and loved it so much that we kept the experiment out so the class could do it themselves the next morning.
During snack we have been practicing family style dining by placing our snack for the day into bowls and having the children serve themselves and then pass the bowl to their friends. Our class has impressed us with their please and thank yous. You have taught them well.
We have been practicing for the Shoobee Doobee Shabbat next Friday on February 6th. Each child has a part in the program and are excited to sing the Tu B’ Shevat songs we have been learning. Hope everyone can attend our celebration of the trees.
Thank you to Leah’s parents for sending in their old cell phones for our class to use. They love to pretend that they are talking on the phone to their parents or ordering pizza for our class. Yum.
Thank you to Simon’s mom for being our mystery reader. The class loved listening to ” Caps for Sale.”
