Our day school came into our classroom this week and played the shofar to get us ready for Rosh Hashanah which starts on Sunday 9/13/15.
In Jewish Studies we are talking about Rosh Hashanah which is the Jewish New Year. We listened to songs and talked about how the shofar comes from a ram. We can’t wait to eat apples and honey so we can have a sweet new year. Delicious.
In P.E. with Ms. Alyse we played musical hula hoops. We had to run around the room and then jump into a hula hoop when the music stopped. What a fun way to exercise our bodies.
Have you ever played with scarves? We did and had so much fun throwing them high into the air and trying to catch them. Some of us used the scarves as hats or made a blanket for our baby dolls. We love dancing with scarves.
Our junior chefs are at it again. We made apple strudel muffins by mixing eggs, oil, water and batter into a bowl. We then poured our batter into muffin cups and sprinkled cinnamon and brown sugar on top of it. They smelled so good when we took them out of the oven. Yum. Yum. We then put them in the freezer so we can enjoy them for our Apples with Abba on 9/9/15.
During Science with Ms. Amanda, we played with robotic bugs that tickled our hands when we turned them on. We then took blocks and built houses for our bugs. The best part was when we had a huge bug race. Boy were they fast!
In gardening with Ms. Amanda we cleaned out our garden bed of the old weeds from over the summer. We used shovels and rakes to help us pull out the weeds. We were lucky to come across a beautiful butterfly, a bug skeleton and a tiny grub. Soon we will be planting flowers and vegetables. Hopefully our class has a green thumb and we can all enjoy the fruits of our labor.
We colored a giant shofar for Rosh Hashanah. We stuffed it with newspapers and are going to hang it up in our classroom. Soon we will be hanging up an apple, a honey pot and a pomegranate.
Shiver me timbers. Our room has been invaded by pirates. They came into our room looking for treasure and to fix our pretend television. Lucky for us they were friendly pirates and said they would be back tomorrow to look for more treasure.
During show-n-tell, our class learned about cheetahs, books, talking dogs, ducks, the sound of a shofar, baseball caps, penguins, tigers and a tzedakah box. Ms. Janet and I were so proud how everyone came up in front of their friends and talked about the item they wanted to show the classroom.
We did a colorful science experiment in class. We took a bowl and poured milk into it. We then added drops of red, blue and yellow food coloring in different areas of the bowl. After that we added a few drops of liquid dish soap. After a few moments, magic started happening in the bowl. The food coloring started moving towards the center of the bowl where the dish soap was. The longer we watched, the more colors we saw forming in our bowl when the colors started mixing together by themselves. Our class said we have a rainbow right here in our classroom.
